Jarrett Productions and Planet Grande Pictures are in pre-production for a daily television series entitle, “The Power of YOU”.
A television series empowering our children, which in turn will change their lives, which in turn will change the world… no exaggeration.
The Power of YOU
The Power of YOU is not a half hour baby-sitter for our kids. It’s the best of television. It’s what happens when talent, integrity, and passion come together to make a difference for our children, our future and our planet. With these principles aligned, The Power of YOU has the potential to become the most successful, influential and important children’s show in the history of television.
The Power of YOU is not simply a good idea; it’s critical because Rome is burning. It’s fourth quarter, two minutes to go on this planet and we literally need our children to step up and into their greatness. We need them to be extraordinary.
The Power of YOU is a daily television show that will empower our children to become extraordinary by instilling the following core principles in every episode:
- You are truly special, important and valued
- Mastering Self-Talk
- The power of your thoughts and your actions
- What goes in comes out – what you give out comes back
You are truly special, important and valued
Do you remember when YOU were a kid and you knew, really, really deep inside that YOU were not only special, YOU actually had something of value to say?
Do you remember how this gift of YOU was treated because YOU were “just a kid”? Do you remember how you knew “they” were wrong about YOU?
The Power Of YOU will provide a voice for our children by honoring them, celebrating them and by providing a platform and showcase for their voices to be heard.
Becoming Masters Of Self-Talk
FACT: “The #1 problem that brings adults into therapy is lack of confidence and belief in themselves.” (Psychology Today, September 14, 2008)
Of course, these same Americans are then having children and of course, passing along the same crippled, fear-based, negative self-talk skills that they posses.
FACT: “The average one-year old hears the word ‘No,’ ‘Don’t,’ or ‘Bad’ over two hundred times per day. By the time they’re three they’ve heard those same words over two hundred thousand times.” (UCLA, Advanced Institute Of Psychology, January 2009)
The Power of YOUwill also empower our children to become masters of their self-talk by
teaching them (and their parents) how to eliminate viral words that are so crippling to positive learning so they can actually step up and into their greatness.
Empowering our children with world-class life coaching and psycho-linguistic skills is not just a good idea, it’s critical because no generation in our country’s history has inherited a bigger train-wreck than the one we’re handing off to our children – global warming, international banking collapse, the threat of nuclear attack on our country from at least twelve different countries along with the two wars our country is fighting at the same time.
And that’s just what’s going on today so it’s no wonder our children are so scared, lost, confused, desperate, hopeless, depressed and even suicidal about their future. And there’s the rub – because of all that’s going on in this crazy world, as well as whatever is coming next, our children are the most critical generation not only in our country’s history but also in the history of mankind. The stakes are that high and the world doesn’t need anymore mediocre-thinking children. We have plenty of those. We need more children to become extraordinary – extraordinary dreamers, visionaries, leaders and human beings. ASAP.
The Power Of Your Thoughts
In 2008, a PBS Frontline Special, Medicated America, reported that in 1990, 11% of Americans were taking anti-depressants. By 2000, that number tripled to 35% and in 2008, 58% of Americans were on prescription anti-depressants, spending $162 billion dollars annually on these drugs. But the most depressing statistic was this – in 2008, six million American children were also taking anti-depressants so they could “feel better inside about themselves.”
The PBS Special concluded with the following: “Granted, for many people their emotional problems are a direct result of a genetic, chemical imbalance. However, the majority of people suffering from depression are simply overwhelmed by their out of control thoughts … It’s estimated we have over 60,000 thoughts per day. The problem is, most people keep having the same thoughts over and over every day and most of these ‘same thoughts’ are laced with fear and lack.”
The Power of YOU will empower our children not to simply dream but teach them how to make their dreams come true. We will accomplish this by teaching them to realize that they choose through their thoughts and self-talk in every moment who they are going to be.
If that is true – and it is – then The Power of YOU is not just a good idea, it’s critical because we desperately need this next generation of American children not to just think they can, but to know they can.
What goes in comes out. What you give out comes back.
FACT: “By the time an American child reaches the age of fourteen they have experienced 12,000 simulated murders through video games, movies and television.” (Institute Of American Studies, February 2007)
The Power Of YOU will counter-balance our children’s daily diet of negativity to not only help them survive “whatever is next” but to fearlessly thrive.
THE FORMAT
The Power of YOU will be a talk-show format with host and series creator, Jim Jarrett, and taped before a live audience – all kids.
Every show will incorporate the following segments to impart the core teaching principles listed in the overview:

The following are other key teachings that will constantly be weaving throughout the show and these segments:

- If your child can dream it they can become it
- Your child is taking in everything you say and do – everything

The first episode will deal with sports manners by showing a montage of kids “choosing poorly” – throwing a bat after striking out, slamming the basketball against the garage after a loss, throwing a tantrum after losing the race, etc., along with world-class athletes choosing poorly as well (Lebron James’ latest would be a nice start).
Next, a star athlete talking about how they learned to choose to be more graceful with their sports manners – i.e. Tiger Woods talking about his bad temper when he first started then how he learned to deal with “that guy on his bench who hated to lose” by choosing instead to be graceful and positive.
DR. GARY’S MENTORING POSITIVELY
Dr. Gary Daniel is one of the show’s creators as well as one of the most respected and talented teachers of “genius thinking and the power of self-talk” in America. His no-nonsense, straight to the point style is complimented perfectly by his sense of humor. With thirty years in the self-help industry, he is extremely talented at his job.
This segment will be in-studio with several children as well as parents as Dr. Gary helps the children deal with their negative feelings and thoughts by empowering them with psycho-linguistic reframing skills.
Dr. Gary will also teach the children how they can choose to react in every emotionally difficult situation. Since metaphors are the most powerful teaching tool, each situation being discussed will then be reenacted using actors as the child’s parents, thus providing the opportunity for the child to “choose” in advance how they will react in a very controlled, safe environment.
Dr. Gary will lead the Mentoring Positively segment and draw upon the knowledge of the world’s leading child psychologists, behaviorists, educators and teachers by having them as in-studio guests.
THE GUYS ON MY BENCH
The concept for The Guys On My Bench comes from the shows creator, Jim Jarrett and his quarter century of teaching acting in this country.
Jarrett’s teacher, the legendary Sanford Meisner, instilled into his students that the seed to every character they would ever play is already in side of them. Simply put, we all have inside of us every possibility of the human condition – from honest to deceitful, thoughtful to selfish, humane to cruel.
Over the years, Jarrett evolved the “guys on your bench” metaphor to deepen this teaching with extremely powerful, illuminating life-changing results for his actors.
Experiencing first-hand the power of “the guys on your bench” concept, Jarrett created a children’s show around it. The effect on the children has been life changing as well.
The Guys On My Bench is an animated segment and will center around the Rutledge family of five – Melissa (15), Jimmy (8), Kyla (1) and their parents, Bob and Lydia Rutledge as well as all of “the guys inside of them.” Every member of the family is constantly aware of and in communication with “the guys on their bench.” By recognizing that these guys inside of them are all parts of them, the Rutledge family (and those watching) will realize and embrace that they can choose which guy on their bench will react in every moment and every situation.
“THE WORST THING ABOUT BEING ME IS …”
“The Worst Thing About Being Me …” is another by-product of Jim Jarrett’s years of touring and talking with children throughout the world. He kept hearing over and over just how difficult and for some, how cruel being a teenager was – the peer pressure, the cliques, the cool kids versus the outcasts (some of us adults are still recovering from days way back when).
He created “The Worst Thing About Being Me …” to provide some balance as well as compassion for every teenager – because every single kid, even the coolest kid in school has “their stuff.”
The setup for Jarrett’s theatrical touring show was simple – the student’s admission into the play was answering the plays title for themselves on an index card. When they entered the theater they dropped their card into a box. Once all the cards were deposited, the box was brought to the center of the stage, Jarrett enters, introduces himself and then reveals what the “worst thing about being him” is (click on link to view demo – http://www.jarrettproductions.com/the-worst-thing-about-being-me-is.html).
After that, Jarrett reaches into the box and pulls out a handful of cards and begins to read from them. And no matter where he does the show, it’s always the same cards – “The worst thing about being me is I have no friends … I’m too short, too tall, too ugly, too dumb, too poor, too … whatever.”
Again, wherever he does it the theme is the same: “I don’t feel like I’m enough…”
The impact of Jarrett’s play and this segment is to help all teenagers realize that they are not alone in their “shortcomings,” to challenge them to have compassion for every single person they meet because we all have felt that way inside and most importantly, every single time they take negative inventory about who they are, it’s critical to balance that out with something positive.
GUEST STAR INTERVIEW AND/OR PERFORMANCE
The purpose of this segment is simple – to have successful young people be ambassadors for what’s possible (the opposite of the Britney Spears’ and Lindsey Lohans’ of the world).
GUEST KID CHANGING THE WORLD
This segment features and highlights a “normal kid” who is choosing to do extraordinary things with their life and in turn, inspires children watching to step up and into their gifts and greatness.
TOWN HALL MEETING
Every episode will conclude with a ten-minute Town Hall Meeting with the children in attendance. This will be an unscripted, interactive exchange between Jim, Dr. Gary, the guests and the children from the audience as they discuss, react and question what they’ve just learned/experienced from the episode.
The Power Of YOU doesn’t want to be on Oprah, we want to be Oprah for our children – to empower then, educate them, inspire them, and honor them in an incredibly powerful, entertaining and interactive way.
